WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Clear focus on what we want to achieve will improve our effectiveness and ultimately our results. Focus is only a positive if we are focussing on the right things. Below we look at quick ways to improve your focus.

KEY POINTS

  1. Figure out what is a relevant focus

By taking the time to think deeply about what you should be focusing on you increase the likelihood that you are both ‘consciously and subconsciously aligned’ and thus working towards the correct goal. Saying things like ‘Increase sales’ or ‘get healthier’ are too vague. What are you going to do? And why? Make sure you have clear priorities.

  1. Don’t rush in. Stay aligned with your focus and plan accordingly.

The old Einstein quote goes “If I had an hour to solve a problem I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 on the solution”. You should be the same. A well thought out and dedicated plan is always better than just trying to figure it out as you go.

  1. Time Box

Set time limits for your whatever it is you’re focussed on. This way you can schedule different things over the course of the duration. It’s easier to plan when you set a timeframe.

SO WHAT?

The best way to improve your focus is to set clear priorities by being present in your situation, whatever it might be. Early planning and dividing your goals into short, time-specific bursts will also help you to keep momentum as well as focus. Goal posts can always be moved, but it is important to set them so you know where to aim.
